Overstitch Device for Endoscopic Suturing

The Apollo OverStitch device for endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and gastric bypass revisions

This endoscopic suturing system allows surgeons to place sutures (a surgical stitch used to hold tissue together) in the stomach through a flexible endoscope. An endoscope is a surgical instrument which is tubular in shape, and can be used to look deep into the body. They can be used to examine, diagnose, or assist in surgery.

The stitches which are placed using the Apollo OverStitch essentially shrink the size of the stomach. The implantation of these sutures ultimately leads to the patient adapting a healthier way of eating as their appetite is reduced.

The System is enabling a wide range of less invasive solutions for the patients, like bypass revision and a primary procedure called Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG).  To date, over 3000 cases have  shown that in selected cases and a dedicated follow-up team, can achieve impressive results.

Just recently, a comprehensive study on 248 patients made by three hospitals, Sanchinarro in Madrid, Weill Cornell in New York and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, has been published showing that patients who follow carefully the post operative protocol and engage themselves in a consistent lifestyle changing, achieve about 20% of weight loss at 2 years.
